Mountain biking - The Opotiki region has some of the best mountain biking in New Zealand including the Motu Trails (New Zealand Cycle Trail). The quiet country roads that lead into the hills are perfect for cruising while bush tracks and coastal routes provide thrill seekers with danger and speed.
Horse Riding - beach and bush riding are popular in the Opotiki region, which also happens to be the Rodeo capital of New Zealand
Enjoy a round of golf at Opotiki Golf Course
Waiotahi Beach is a wide, sandy beach, surf beach. Patrolled by the local surf club during the summer it's great for swimming, body surfing and surfing when conditions are right..
Fishing - Surf casting directly off Waiotahi beach yields snapper all year round. For game fisherman the waters off Waiotahi and around White Island are regarded as the best Tuna fishing grounds in New Zealand.
Sea Kayaking - A fun way of getting your long line out to sea. Kayaks and lifejackets are provided at the house.
White Island (by boat via Whakatane or by helicopter direct from Waiotahi for some real excitement).
River Fishing - The back country rivers in the area also offer exceptional trout fishing. Local guides and charter boats are the best way to find your own favourite spot.
Hunting - The Urewera’s and Raukumara’s hold large populations of Red Deer, Wild Boar and goats. Once again local guides are the best way to discover this country.
Whitewater Rafting - Experience the magnificent Motu River (jet-boating, canoeing, and rafting options are available) -
Bush Walking - There are plenty of leisurely options to suit the family (including Hukutaia Domain which is home to the 2,000 year old Taketakerau/Millenium Tree, and the Tauranga Bridge Walk), as well as numerous trails suitable for the more adventurous which explore the Te Urewera and Raukumara mountain ranges that border Opotiki.
